Geothermal Heating and Cooling: Efficient, Eco-Friendly Comfort in Buffalo NY

Harness the power of the Earth to heat and cool your home with geothermal technology. At Vastola, we specialize in the installation, replacement, maintenance, and repair of geothermal systems that provide year-round comfort and energy efficiency.

How Geothermal Systems Work

Geothermal systems tap into the steady temperatures beneath the Earth’s surface to provide heating in the winter and cooling in the summer. By transferring heat to and from the ground, these systems use far less energy than traditional HVAC systems, making them a cost-effective and eco-friendly choice.

GEOTHE1

How it works, in detail

Geothermal Heating:

Underground Loop System: A series of pipes, called a loop, is buried in the ground. This loop is filled with a heat-conducting fluid (often a mixture of water and antifreeze).

Heat Absorption: During the winter, the fluid absorbs heat from the ground, which remains at a relatively constant temperature (between 45°F and 75°F, depending on location).

Heat Pump: The heat absorbed by the fluid is transferred to a geothermal heat pump located inside your home.

Distribution: The heat pump concentrates this energy and distributes it through your home’s heating system, warming the air, floors, or water as needed.

Geothermal Cooling:

Heat Extraction: In the summer, the system reverses. Instead of drawing heat from the ground, it removes heat from your home and transfers it to the ground through the same loop system.

Cooling Your Home: As heat is absorbed by the fluid and carried back underground, the cooled air is circulated through your home, reducing indoor temperatures.

Key Components

Ground Loop: Either vertical or horizontal loops are installed underground.

Heat Pump: This unit uses electricity to transfer heat to and from the ground, acting as both a heating and cooling system.

Ductwork: Air is distributed throughout your home via existing or new ductwork, depending on your setup.

This process is highly energy-efficient, as the system leverages the Earth’s stable temperatures instead of burning fuel or relying heavily on electricity.
